Stay on the path

Kami, Mark and I went hiking on Mark's birthday and learned a valuable lesson: stay on the path.

We headed over to see a few different lookout spots. Things were still peachy at this point.

Here we are scooting down a big slope because our shoes have zero traction:

Here is where things got a little sticky. We didn't want to walk all the way back the way we came because we had made a sort of circle and were close to where we started, just higher up. From our view, it didn't look so steep to just go straight down, but it turns out we were wrong.

Here is the slope we ended up sliding down. I was literally squatted down sliding on my feet and so was Mark, but Kami was sliding snowboard style and was doing great until she hit a rough patch and tumbled a few feet down. Luckily she was fine besides a few scrapes and bruises.

Lesson learned: the path is there for a reason.

Happy Easter

Yup, he's real.

Surprise Party

So Kami and I decided to throw a surprise party for Mark's birthday. We met on thursday night to make a paper mache piñata, on which we included a picture of his face. It turns out it's way easy to make a piñata - you just paper mache a balloon and then when it is dry you pop it and fill it with candy.

I spent Friday afternoon claiming to be running errands while really only going to the store for some butter and then making a cake and decorating for the party. Sis. Johnson - hereafter known as MJ came over and we were nonchalantly eating pizadillas together when Mark came over to hang out before we went "ice skating" - what we told Mark we were going to do that night.

MJ and I played it cool for a couple of hours and then Kami texted me saying she was bored and we should come over. We did, but not before stopping at my car to grab my ice skates.

We showed up at Kami's and Mark was incredibly surprised to find that most of his friends jumped out and yelled surprise! It was definitely a success.

Who knew?

So apparently tootsie pops come in a new flavor - pomegranate!

I just tried it and the verdict is that it may be even better than the orange flavor. And that is saying something.

Happy Birthday Hna. Adams!

To celebrate Sis. Adam's birthday I made a cake in the shape of a bunny.

You might claim that it doesn't look anything like a bunny, but that's what it is.

The celebration was pretty dominated by girls who served at the Mormon Battalion Historic Site. That's how we like to party.

Tim's Birthday

In order to celebrate Tim's birthday last week, Mark and I made him his favorite kind of cake: strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting.

We got pretty detailed in the decorating. Notice the guitar,

and a windmill (because we went to Spain together).

It turns out that Mark is pretty good at face painting.

Tim obviously loved the cake.

And so did the rest of us. Turns out strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting is a pretty great combo. It's also an excellent compromise if someone loves chocolate but someone else loves vanilla. Win.

Avalanche City

Avalanche City was the band that opened for Fun. I LOVED them instantly because they had a girl playing the electric violin. Can you say awesome? Here is the music video for one of their songs. Watch it. Love it. It is adorable.

General Conference and FUN.

Mark and I managed to get tickets to the Saturday afternoon session of General Conference, which was so excellent.

The Tadeo family and Hna Rivas, who I loved serving with on the mission came all the way from San Diego for conference, so it was fun to see them again.
