Happy Mormon Battalion Day!

One year ago today I was giving tours to thousands of people at the Mormon Battalion Historic Site because it was the anniversary of their arrival in San Diego.

I owe a lot to the members of the Mormon Battalion. They taught me so much over the last 18 months. For example:

Faith can make an ordinary person do extraordinary things.
Despite difficult circumstances I can choose to be happy.
Sacrifice isn't easy, but when it is for the right thing, it is infinitely worth it.

I doubt that any of them had any idea of the difference they would make. Sometimes I bet they wanted to turn back. But I love that they never did.

The best way to celebrate Mormon Battalion Day is to go to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site, but since I couldn't do that, I was luckily able to do the next best thing - attend the homecoming of the directors that I served with. The Evans brought back a lot of excellent memories in their talks, which I greatly appreciated.
